Entree Capital Selects CIF as Cannabis Advisor in Israel

Entrée Capital Eyes Cannabis Sector with Focus on Israeli Cannabis Technologies

February 12, 2019

New York – Toronto - Tel Aviv, Israel –

Entrée Capital - a venture capital firm that funds multi-stage startups and companies all over the world, announced today that they are actively seeking investments in companies from the cannabis sector, and have selected Can Innovation Finder (CIF) to be their advisor on the industry.  CIF is an Israel-focused cannabis innovation hub with a focus on bridging the technology gap between Israel and legal cannabis markets, especially in North America.

Entrée Capital was founded by seasoned entrepreneurs with a track record of having successfully invested and exited over twenty businesses on five continents in the past decade.  Entrée Capital manages over $300m across a number of funds and its portfolio includes SnapChat, Stripe, Deliveroo, Prospa, monday.com, Riskified, HouseParty, Stash, PillPack, SeatGeek, Coupang and over 50 other investments. The firm has offices in London and Tel Aviv.

This marks an exciting step as a seasoned tech VC enters the cannabis market, demonstrating a confidence in the industry. In May 2018, Entrée Capital announced the closing of its second Israeli focused early stage fund with aggregate capital commitments of $80m.

In their role as cannabis advisors, CIF will work with the Entrée Capital team to evaluate and recommend companies offering unique technologies for the industry, with a focus on Israel. They will also assist the cannabis portfolio companies to penetrate the North American markets where cannabis is legal.

CIF is a female-led venture, launched in August 2018 and with a portfolio of almost 30 Israeli Canna-Tech, MedTech and AgriTech companies, cultivators and clinical labs.  CIF helps the companies to commercialize their technologies by promoting Israeli innovation to licensed cannabis producers in Canada, as well as multi-state operators and value added cannabis VCs in the US and Europe. Their North American clients include some of the top Licensed Producers and Multi State Operators.

“Israel was one of the first to research the medical benefits of cannabis and has a rich history of innovating in agriculture. Coupled with being the “startup up nation” and leading the world in innovation, it is only logical to expect disruptive ventures in the space to emerge from Israel to seize the growing market opportunity in legalized markets,” said Eran Bielski, General Partner in Entrée Capital Ventures Israel. “We are excited to work with CIF to find the Israeli entrepreneurs which will bring to market the technology which will form this fast-growing space.”

“We are honored to have been selected as the advisor on cannabis to Entrée Capital,” said Sarah Tahor, Founder and CEO of CIF. “Since our team is located onsite in Israel, Canada and the US, we have tremendous knowledge and understanding of regional cannabis trends and regulations, as well as personal contacts. We are excited about the opportunity to support Entrée Capital as they enter the cannabis investment space with their global reputation for building strong businesses”.
